Ron Planks

Ron Planks is the Director of Orchestras at Rock Hill High School in Prosper, TX, as well as the Vertical Team Leader for the Prosper ISD Strings program. Prior to starting the program in Prosper, Mr. Planks had been the Director of Orchestras at Williams HS in Plano, TX from 1998 - 2015; and, the Asst. Director at Memorial HS  and Memorial MS in Spring Branch, TX from 1996 - 1998.  Mr. Planks has also served as founder and executive director of the community youth orchestra, Strings of Color from 2008-2012.


Mr. Planks holds a Bachelors in Music Education and a Masters Degree in Conducting and Theory/Musicology from Sam Houston State University.  While at Sam Houston State University, Mr. Planks served as Concertmaster of the SHSU Symphony under the direction of Dr. Carol Smith, studied violin with Dr. James Gardner and viola with Joy Plesner. Mr. Planks is a native of Bryan-College Station and he currently resides in Frisco, TX.

While completing his Principal's Certificate in 2015, Mr. Planks began an after school program designed to mentor at-risk teen males which received recognition from the Plano ISD.  Mr. Planks hopes to continue cultivating his music students love for music, however, he also aspires to impact student lives beyond the walls of the orchestra classroom.
